We are going to preface all of our candidate spotlights with this statement;
This post, this page, and any other distribution channels are in no way affiliated with or paid by any candidate or candidates committee.
Candidates were given equal access to voluntarily contribute information for consideration for our candidate spotlight pieces.
Finally, we feel strongly that too much focus is placed on the party and not the person. For this reason, we are not listing the party for which the candidate is registered or running. We want to end the bias of party preference voting. Get to know the person and forget the party lines.
That said, this candidate spotlight will focus on; Eric D. Coston, PA-C.
Eric is seeking election to the position of Crawford County Coroner. Eric and his family live in Guys Mills, PA. There they own a 200-acre farm called Oil Creek Farms, where they practice responsible crop farming and seek to explore the benefits of hydroponic growing on a larger scale.
If you're like us, you likely have not heard of hydroponic growing. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead, plants are grown using nutrient-rich water. This can be done outdoors during warm weather, or indoors for year-round growing.
Now that we've taken a lesson in hydroponic growing, how about we get back to Eric.
Eric is a board-certified physician assistant, with 30 years of experience in emergency medicine, trauma care, primary care, and internal medicine. Eric is a retired Major of 24 years as a US Army Reservist who was assigned to a Forward Surgical Team and Military Police Battalion as a medical officer.
In the past, as well as currently, Eric serves as the Crawford County Deputy Coroner. As such, his current role has given him training in medicolegal death investigations. His current role would also allow for a seamless office transfer, with an immediate continuity of authority related to the coroner position.
Eric is a lifetime member and volunteer firefighter at the East Mead VFD and has been for 38 years. Currently, and for the last 11 years, Eric is serving as the Fire Chief. He has also served as an EMT for 37 years.
Eric's volunteer and community efforts don't stop with the fire department. In fact, you may have seen him supporting some other great causes, such as PSP Camp Cadet program Troop E, VFW Post #2006, Crawford County 4-H, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers, and many local fire and EMS raffles and fundraising dinners.
Eric has also supported the missions of Toys for Tots, St. James Haven, CHAPS, and Crawford County Care Center. He has done so by providing food, personal care items, and Christmas gifts to those supported by these endeavors.
As if all of that wasn't enough, Eric would like to pursue involvement in the local drug and alcohol awareness programs, mental health and suicide awareness programs, and veteran's awareness programs.
When asked why electors should choose him, Eric stated that he is trained, qualified, professional, and experienced. His current role as Deputy Coroner has given him the experience and training necessary to significantly reduce the potential for legal or liability suits against Crawford County resulting from wrongful death determinations. With his military and fire service backgrounds, Eric has been assigned management and fiscal responsibilities. Throughout his career, Eric has had the responsibility of overseeing personnel and substantial physical inventory assets that were valued at over 2 million dollars. Without fail, he has been subjected to audits and has always remained compliant and within budget.
One thing Eric would like to see changed would be to have higher education standards and relatable experience to the role you are being elected to. This could greatly reduce the troubles of transition that are often experienced when a newly elected official is put into position.
As far as the nitty-gritty goes, his record is as clean as surgical hands. Meaning, there is nothing to find whatsoever.
